Locs Maintenance & Care Guide

๐Ÿ“… Retwist Schedule

Starter Locs (0-6 months)

Frequency: Every 4-6 weeks

During the budding phase, your locs need more frequent maintenance to establish their foundation. Regular retwisting helps create clean parts and prevents matting.

Established Locs (6+ months)

Frequency: Every 6-10 weeks

Once locs are mature, you can extend the time between retwists. Over-retwisting can cause breakage, so allow your hair to breathe and grow naturally.

๐Ÿงผ Washing Your Locs

Frequency

Wash your locs every 1-2 weeks. Clean hair promotes healthy growth and prevents buildup.

Method

  1. Wet hair thoroughly with warm water
  2. Apply sulfate-free, residue-free shampoo to scalp
  3. Gently massage scalp between locs (avoid twisting wet hair)
  4. Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear
  5. Gently squeeze excess water from locs (don't wring)
  6. Allow to air dry completely (6-8 hours) or use a hooded dryer on low heat

Product Recommendations

  • Clarifying shampoo (monthly for buildup removal)
  • Moisturizing shampoo (regular use)
  • Avoid heavy conditioners that leave residue
  • Apple cider vinegar rinse (monthly) for clarifying
